 Now we know!
As a recap, here are the highlights:

You won't have much time for romance (if at all) -
but you will enjoy the sweet smell of freedom!
You need to divide yourself into three (as a wife, mother and business woman) - but your child(ren) get a totally different view of being committed!
You may be constantly busy and pre-occupied with your business -
but you will enjoy the perks of e.g. creating your own schedules, work and free time.
You will be working a lot -
but work is fun and your customers are more than just customers, they are your friends!
All in all, working with your husband can be fun:
He will work and you can go on holidays!

Together you are working towards your own dream and your own success. You create your own future!

Thank you guys for you time, your hospitality and foremost, your honesty!

ThIS SINGLE MOTHER IS A PRIVATE PILOT?

                Elke Robinson
High Flying (aka private pilot) Single Mother!

Elke Robinson
Owner/President/Publisher
Health Professional

Being a single parent is hard enough!
Being a single parent in a new country is even harder:
For one, you don't have your family support, nor do you have a network of friends build up yet!

So why stay?
And Why did you decide to become a private pilot?

Here are nuggets from my interview, filmed at Langley Regional Airport!

Just over 12 years ago I came to Vancouver!
Unfortunately, my marriage fall apart and I stood alone with my 10 year old daughter, not knowing how to go on!
I found jobs as a Nutrition Specialist and worked hard just paying the bills; finally I bought a condo and stabilised our life, as you call it. We had no friends or family support.
I needed to PROVIDE and SURVIVE on a basic level , inspired by my beautiful gift of a child, I drove myself forward, not allowing desperation to take over.
Life is a struggle if we want it to be...or a JOURNEY to enjoy and meet and gain more opportunities.
By taking care of myself on all possible levels, like exercising and eating well, I was able to keep a positive AURA on everything I put my mind to.
LIFE opens up when you open up
- so they say!
During one of my afternoon strolls I looked upwards into the sky and noticed all the small aeroplanes buzzing around in the sky!
I decided to check out the closest flying school, boarded a plane for a sightseeing trip and was hooked!
And just like that my journey of becoming a private pilot began!

It took four years of fighting time, work schedules, motherhood, self-care in achieving a phenomenal dream of freedom:
Flying!
The empowerment, the confidence, the struggles, all seemed to come full circle, as the WORLD did open up around me.
An opportunity came along to buy an Aviation Magazine; Oh well I thought, I have no  experience or know-how of publishing a small news journal - and said yes!
It quickly turned into a sophisticated, high-level national magazine.
I am thankful for opportunities that come along!  At first I am scared of course to grab hold of them; but then I realise I need to take them to make another dream come true!
The biggest struggle for me was not being able to share with my friends and family.
My family is far away in South Africa!
Building a new circle of friends means staying in one place long enough to belong!
We all have dreams...and we can make them a reality
by jumping in and living life.
On a daily level I learn my lessons, e.g. how to become a better person, how to become a better communicator and how to fall in love with myself first before I can fall in LOVE with somebody else!
My greatest motivation has been raising my daughter.
LIFE is a JOURNEY - not a DESTINATION!
The struggles and wounds we gather are really shaping us into SHINING Diamonds...spreading our energy to those around us!
Now I am learning ballroom dancing - a new language of beautiful expressions that LIFE is meant to be lived.

Thank you folks at Langley airport for allowing us to film here!

I don't Believe I've done this again - on my Birthday!

45 hours ago I celebrated my birthday.

It was yet another one "on the wrong side of 40" - to use the words of Jackie Collins- and yet another great day to look back on- and to look forward to new, great achievements!

To conduct this day in true Christina fashion I stick to a few self-made rules:
No self-congratulations on a social media site (why would I do that anyway?),
to have lots of fun and
to do something I have never done before!

As luck, fate or simple circumstances would have it, this years birthday was a day spent with me, myself and I ( the best company there is). My husband had left the country to go skiing in Europe (go figure) and our four boys had pre-arranged appointments til the evening or even the next day!!
Ah! Lovely, the sweet smell of birthday freedom!

For this years 'new experience' I chose a 90 minute Bikram yoga class!
And honestly, I had no idea what Bikram yoga is.
All I knew I had to bring a towel, my mat, plenty of water and spandex!
To my utter surprise it is HOT YOGA!!!

Exactly two years ago I sweat and stretched through my worse 90 minutes in my life in a tiny, hot, hot hot room full of hot (however not smelly) bodies, doing hot yoga!
I felt dizzy, sweaty, hot, uncomfortable, couldn't breath and stayed for the whole duration of the longest 90 minutes of my life (self torture in the highest fashion- and only because I don't like to call myself a quitter!).

There is a reason I love trail runs and skiing!
Right there and then I did the pinkie swear to never, ever do exercise in any kind of heated room ever again!

Surprise, surprise:
Bikram Yoga is a series of 26 yoga stretches / exercises in a heated room!

Pinkie swear or not, I stayed!
Why?
Because I am quite stubborn!
I was fully committed to make Bikram yoga part of my 52 New Experiences for this year- regardless of what it is or what it does!

And how did I enjoy the experience this time around?
Yes, yes, yes:  I loved it! Truly and honestly I loved every sweaty,
hot minute of stretching and pretzeling!

This time around the room was a lot bigger with lots of natural light! We were only eight and the best was....
our male instructor!
He entered the room fully clothed in his itsy - pitsy speedo swimming trunks (think Sean Connery as Agent 007 in his best beach attire).
 Or were these yoga pants?

My dear yoga loving reader, apologies for my ignorance! With my love for running I spend more time in the shoe department of a sports shop than in the yoga department.
Due to my love for outdoor activities this whole yoga trend has totally passed me by.
Who or what is LuLulemon again?

With my new experience under the belt, still hot and sweaty,
I took our middle son to the movies for an experience of the mind boggling, dizzy kind.
I went from hot'n sweaty to scared and freaked out!
We watched "Gravity" in full 3D fashion! We sat on the edge of our seat, absolutely fascinated by the amazing scenery!
And while we prayed for Dr. Stone to get rescued I made up my mind:

I ain't going into space - ever!
If there was ever a doubt in my mind that I would board Richard Benson's
Virgin Galactic, now I know: Nope, you can have my ticket. I ain't going up there.
Even if Richard would offer the attractive two for one deal- I ain't going!

Watching planet earth from a space shuttle or doing
26 yoga exercises in a heated room without a view?
Let me stretch and bend in the heat-
as long as the class is instructed by a bare chested man dressed in speedos!
